Do Advanced and True classes have belt ranks and katas?

Advanced yes, Katana no. Our advanced shotokan karate classes are traditional, similar to other shotokan schools, so they have ranks and katas. In addition to advanced shotokan karate, we have advanced classes that go beyond sports karate. “True Katana Karate” does not have belt ranks although one has to be at the level of black belt in shotokan or a similar style to qualify for True Katana Karate lessons. The reason for the absence of ranks is that True Katana Karate is not an art massively performed, so every practitioner knows exactly where he stands. Then, there is our philosophy that is different from sports karate. As for katas, we do have unique “forms”, but again, not similar to sports karate katas.
