Rather than to focus on modern, sport style and discredited belt ranking, Katana Karate captures and continues to follow Shinan Kase’s principles in Traditional Shotokan Karate based on Bushido, Budo and Zen philosophy of Martial Art.

FOR KIDS

Katana Karate welcomes kids and beginners. In fact, our New York City Locations are kid’s only karate schools lead by junior instructor who teaches kids the basics of Karate and Japanese language and tradition through fun, exercises and karate games.

FOR ADULTS

In October 2008, Katana Karate extends into New Jersey Edge Water with idea to focus on martial arts for adult, both beginners and advanced students. Currently, we have twice weekly basic karate classes.

When the first class of New Jersey students’ graduate, we are adding advanced classes in which we will study bushido martial art focusing on kumite. Katana’s chief instructor, kumite competitor with years of experience in numerous karate tournaments, will lead the advanced classes. In these classes, we are going to incorporate Shinan Taiji Kase’s philosophy of samurai martial art, free of modern, sport segments which we are call “Katana Karate” or “Katana Martial Arts”.

KATANA KARATE PRINCIPLES

Think hard before to engage.

We can all win and lose every fight.

There is no first attack.

Once you engage, stop thinking.

Engage fully determined and you can win.

Never underestimate your opponent and you will never be surprised.

An angry opponent is very predictable but equally dangerous.

Even the greatest techniques fail without strength and determination.

Winning without damaging requires highest skills.

Defeating your enemy is the beginning, not the end.
